Brainstorming Continued

Working from your brainstorming from Tuesday, we are going to continue to refine your topic and your question(s). Please follow these steps to further explore your topic:

(1) Inquiry Question: what do you want to know more about this topic?

(2) Primary Purpose: what are additional questions that might help you research you main question? What do you hope to gain by conducting this research?

(3) What, if any, prior beliefs, assumptions, understandings, preconceptions, prejudices, or ideas do you bring to this topic (be specific)? What personal experiences may have shaped the way you feel? Before you begin developing a working knowledge of the topic, what are you thinking about it?

(4) Do some quick and dirty research: go to google. What types of information pops up? What are some important facts that seem to keep jumping out?

(5) After working your way through two  brainstorming sessions and some quick-n-dirty googling, what are you now thinking about your topic? What are some things you'll need to keep in mind as you continue?

Please work your way through these questions being as specific as possible. This is going to lead you to your proposal that's due on Tuesday.

Due: In-Class Activity for Thursday, January 15, 2015.

  1. My topic is sustainability. I would like to know much more about this topic, but my driving question is what are the most effective and commonly used tactics for sustainability? I hope to gain a more in-depth and professional view on sustainability and how it can be used with ease in our every day lives— what small steps can be taken in order to save an entire planet? I would like to ask additional questions, as well as seek the more practiced insights of people involved with acts of sustainability, such as SUSCOM here at the University of Denver. I have some prior assumptions about issues of sustainability, including that if everyone changed how they were living in the slightest ways— such as beginning to recycle, or simply throw their trash out in a designated trash receptacle rather than out their car window. I do not think enough about sustainability, which is why I am looking forward to researching it, I believe that the main issue within sustainability, within both land and marine life sustainability, is that most of the general public is not aware of what is happening, whether it is a drastically swift change, or, more commonly to be ignored, a slow change, that affects the entire earth on a large scale. Consumption, climate, and becoming green, especially within corporate companies— are common seen topics when I did some quick research on google with sustainability. There are many subsets of sustainability (I realized this even more when I looked it up on Google) so I think I am going to concentrate on marine sustainability, as well as climate change affecting sustainability. When focusing more on this topic, I will need to make sure my focus is not too broad, and I will keep it concise on the subtopics I have chosen (I may decide to change these, though).
